The Ardent class was North Point's first new aircraft carrier acquired after the Great Usean War, as well as the first adapted for jet CATOBAR operations. Ordered as a class of four vessels, the order was cut down to a single hull as the war moved West and North Point's role grew increasingly irrelevant. Furthermore, the long reach of Osean carrier battlegroups during the Cold War made the acquisition of any new CATOBAR carriers a needless expense for the Royal Navy, and the Ardent (R01) served as the nation's sole CATOBAR carrier in the 20th Century. She was sunk by Erusean forces during the First Battle of Comberth in 2003, but her No. 118 Naval Air Wing went on to form the core of ISAF's legendary 118th Tactical Fighter Wing after fleeing the battle.
