Facing strong insurgencies, the Comonan military has focused almost all of its efforts since gaining its independence on asymmetric assets, favoring army and SOF forces over conventional units. This posturing is evident in the modern force composition of its air force and navy.
Comonan Air Force
A Comonan C-130E
With domestic strife posing a more significant threat to the archipelago's stability than foreign powers, the CAF has generally been neglected since the 1950s. Operating a combat fleet composed of F-4E Phantom IIs, F-5E Tiger IIs, and F-8U Crusaders complemented by various light transport and COIN craft, they are wholly incapable of engaging in any large-scale conflict. During the Continental War, Comona primarily relied on FCUAF F-15 Eagles protecting the Riass Space Center for its air defense, and it is expected to require outside assistance in the event of any other wars taking place in the coming years with no budgetary plans for modernization. When acquisition of two dozen F-16C Blk. 52s was attempted and subsequently canceled in 2008, the government made it clear that the majority of its acquisitions funding would go towards the army until the Navotan threat was suppressed.
Comonan Army
Comonan Army Rangers
The Comonan Army is the military's largest and most heavily-funded branch, with an earlier emphasis on manpower gradually transitioning to a focus on quality training for special operations that are better-suited to fighting insurgents. Severe losses to Communist guerillas in the 1970s and Navotan Islamic extremists since the 1980s led to the formation of Comonan Army Special Operations Command, consisting of the 1st Scout Ranger Regiment, elite light infantry; the 1st Special Forces Airborne Regiment, rapidly deployable elite paratroopers; and the Light Reaction Battalion, a small and highly classified SOF unit that has worked closely with Osean ARSOC in the past.
Comonan Navy
The flagship Mabagsik
Like the air force, the Comonan Navy has largely been ignored due to its irrelevance in asymmetrical warfare. Rather than devoting resources to capital ships with power projection capabilities, the Comonan Navy focuses it efforts on the local deployability of Marines and special forces. Despite its flagship being a 70-year old Osean frigate - the BRC Mabagsik (PF-12) - the Comonan Navy has maintained a competent special operations force capability. Its Naval Special Amphibious Warfare Group (NSAWG) is modeled directly after Osea's Navy SEALs and has proven effective in coutnerinsurgency operations. Although less elite than NSAWG, the rapid deployability of the Comonan Commonwealth Marine Corps (CCMC) have also played a key role in suppressing violence in the Navotas.
