The Galaxy class was introduced into service with the OMDF in the early 1960s. Advancements in missile technologies, however, led to their development into the Sovereignclass later that decade, beginning with CGN-42. Galaxies remained in service, however, as the OMDF had no reason to simply scrap their earlier investment.
Galaxy class vessels were amongst the first decommissioned in the 1990s defense cuts after studies determined their operational costs to be extremely high compared with more traditional gas turbine-powered ships, and not worth modernizing compared with the Sovereign class.

OFS Orion (CGN-40) - Commissioned in 1965, the Orion suffered a problem with her nuclear reactor's cooling system on her third cruise, leading to a fire that exposed several crew members to fatal doses of radiation. She was decommissioned and disposed of in the 1970s.
OFS Celestia (CGN-41) - The Celestia's career was wholly unremarkable and spent primarily in the Pacific Ocean. She was decommissioned in the 1990s and sunk as a target.
