After the Osean/Belkan schism, Belka's lack of frigate- or destroyer- sized air defense vessels - aside from their two Totten class vessels built before the schism, but canceled after essential radar components could no longer be imported - compared with Osea's Cormorants was evident. In response, the Belkan government ordered twenty-four Skylla class vessels, featuring the indigenous APAR radar that had already been mounted on refit Kanzlers and SMART-L search radars. The advent of the Belkan War, however, resulted in only ten vessels being completed before the nation fell. The surviving three ships became the largest vessels in Belka's postwar naval defense force.
Although few Skyllas existed, they were highly effective vessels and much less vulnerable to airstrikes than their larger counterparts, the Kanzlers, but seven of the ten ships were lost in the war.
