Yggdrasil is a massive arcology constructed by Neucom in the 2020s as an effort to reclaim Farbanti's submerged financial district. The destroyed section of the city remained a massive blight in the two decades following the Ryker fragment's impact, and a number of proposals were put forth throughout the 2010s to remove the destroyed skyline and reclaim land for a planned financial district, build suburban artificial islands to relieve strain put on the city's neighboring environment by encroaching sprawl, and wave farms to power the growing city. All were rejected due to excessive costs, however, and denied public funding.
Neucom recognized immense potential in such an undertaking and purchased several square miles of the submerged city in 2018. Funded entirely with the corporation's own money - supplemented by high levels of investment following the project's announcement - the project's initial stage was the clearing out of two square miles of destroyed skyscrapers and the subsequent regrading of the land into an artificial island. As construction began on the tower's framework in 2021, Neucom purchased a small strip of land leading to the mainland and within a year completed a causeway both for automobile traffic and linking Farbanti's light rail system with the island. The six main columns that made up the building's main framework were the first components to be completed, with fourteen incrementally-placed links to each other. The linking segments were then expanded into fourteen-floor "plateaus," with the lower seven levels designed as self-sufficient communities with residential and retail space while the top seven were reserved for corporate offices. When the project opened four years later, 25,000 residents had already reserved apartments out of the 35,000 possible accommodations The remaining spots filled up quickly as an influx of retailers made life inside of Yggdrasil immensely convenient, and the corporations housed in the upper half incentivized their employees to move in. At over 3,000 feet tall and a bustling center of international commerce, Yggdrasil became a symbol of both Erusea's resolve to overcome its past and Neucom's ideologically-fueled ambition.
