Expo City was planned in the late 2010s as Waosun was announced as the host of the 2024 G7 meeting. A historically significant historical landmark where Western and Oriental settlers first met and generally coexisted peacefully throughout most of the city's history, Waosun was chosen as a symbol of Usean unity by the Usean Union. Initially meant to be a revitalization of the city, struck by economic downturn after many of its port facilities were destroyed in the Continental War, the peak oil crisis led to the city becoming a model for future urban expansion. The federal government contracted Neucom and General Resource to engineer various features of the city, ranging from arcologies to implementation of Neucom's large-scale urban air purification technologies. By the time of the G7 meeting, the rebuilt "Expo City" area had grown to encompass the city's financial district and neighboring residential areas.
